Financial Assistance

To apply for assistance, you may submit an application:
You can contact your county Social Services office and request that an application be mailed to you or you can complete and submit an application online by going to: https://apply.dhs.nd.gov. The completed application will be directed to the appropriate county Social Services office or you can manually print and complete the Application for Assistance and then return it to your county Social Services office.

Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF):
Provides a financial grant for eligible families based on absent, deceased, or disabled parents. The purpose of the program is to ensure a safety net while providing an array of services directed at increasing self-sufficiency. Crossroads Day Care Program can also be accessed through the TANF worker. This program provides payment for day care for infants of unwed minors that wish to finish their high school education. Parents must be under the age of 21. Payments cover the time while they are attending high school classes.

Childcare Assistance Program:
Provides assistance to low income families to help meet their childcare costs. Each family’s share of the cost is based on factors which include the family’s income and household size.

Food Stamps/SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
Provides benefits through the use of electronic benefit transfer (EBT) to assist low income individuals and families with purchasing food. Monthly benefits are determined based on family size and income.

Fuel Assistance:
Provides benefits to low income individuals and families to assist with the payment of heating costs. The program runs from October through May each year. Seasonal benefits are determined based on household size, income and housing type. To apply for energy assistance, complete the following form: Heating Assistance Application and/or contact our office to pick up an application or request that one be mailed.

Medical Assistance/Medicaid
Provides benefits to assist with medical costs for eligible low income individuals and families. Eligibility is based on income and qualifying as a member of a coverage group, which includes, but is not limited to, children, elderly and disabled.
