Economic Development Tools
McHenry County has a wide range of resources and incentives through county, various city and state economic development tools.
Working closely with the communities, local financial institutions, Souris Basin Planning Council and the state of North Dakota, new and expanding businesses will find McHenry County a very "business friendly" environment.
McHenry County has also implemented three programs to assist small businesses for professional accounting assistance, marketing and business development and community marketing efforts. See below for forms and more information.

Business Marketing Match

McHenry County Business Marketing Match Program
In cooperation with the existing Souris Basin Planning Council Action Grant, McHenry County will cost share business participation on approved Action Grant projects. This matching fund money will be awarded to new and/or small businesses that have limited funds available and are considering expansion or projects that will increase revenue to the existing business.
Action Grants are intended to encourage the use of outside expertise to improve a business and can be used to gain knowledge, study ideas or concepts, increase marketing or acquire patent protection. This generally enables a business to seek funding sources to help the business move forward. Action Grant awards promote entrepreneurship and help businesses grow

Financial Assistance Program

Qualifications:
For either new or existing businesses, the McHenry JDA will pay on direct to the accounting/financial service entity.
The McHenry JDA has the right to terminate this grant with a 15 day notice for misuse and misrepresentation of business or funds.
A total of $6,000 per year is set aside for this program. Funds will only be available for businesses that are within McHenry County and are eithew new start-ups or significant expansions.

Community Marketing Match

The McHenry County community must submit and be approved for appropriate MAGIC Fund Rural Marketing Match Programs, as outlined by the MAGIC fund screening committee. It is recommended that the community contact McHenry County JDA Director prior to application.
MAGIC Fund Rural Marketing Match applications deadlines are usually due February each year and are approved on an annual basis.
After approval by the MAGIC Fund Committee and submission of appropriate receipts or invoices to the JDA Director, McHenry County JDA will reimburse the community ½ of their contribution to the project, not to exceed $2,000 per community per year.
