as well as juvenile court matters, child support enforcement, and mental health hearings.

Criminal Investigations:
If someone feels that he/she is the victim of a crime (as opposed to a civil matter), they should report it
to law enforcement for investigation. If the crime occurred in McHenry County, it should be reported to
the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at (701) 537-5633. After the investigation is complete, the State’s
Attorney’s Office will review the matter and determine whether criminal charges will be filed and what
the charges will be.

Note:
The State’s Attorney does not provide the public with legal advice on private (civil) matters. The State’s
attorney is the legal advisor for all county officials and chief prosecuting officer of the county. If you
have a civil matter, please contact a private attorney.
